What is RSS?

RSS is a technology that allows you to monitor changes to multiple pages in JotSpot. Say you wanted to keep track of changes to five different pages in JotSpot. Instead of going back to each of these pages individually, you can "subscribe" to an RSS "feed" of page changes and use a "feed reader" to monitor many different feeds in one place.

To use RSS feeds in JotSpot

You’ll need to download a feed reader. We recommend the readers below because they support JotSpot’s security features.

To subscribe to a feed of page changes

  1. On any page, click the "feeds" link in the upper right corner
  2. Right click on one of the DATA graphics (we recommend selecting ATOM).
  3. Select "Copy Link Location".
  4. In your feed reader, find the button which says "subscribe". Click it.
  5. Paste in the link you copied.
  6. You are now subscribed to a feed of changes. Every time the page changes, your feed reader will alert you.

Security Warning

We want to protect your data as much as you do. The feed readers recommended above allow you to read your feeds without unnecesarily exposing your username & password, and thereby your data. If however you want to use another feed reader, it may be necessary to embed your username & password in the URL that you provide to your chosen feed reader. This is strongly discouraged. Since many feed readers make your feeds available to others using their software or don't support encryption of your data, embedding your private account information in the URL might inadvertantly provide access to your account by unauthorized persons. To avoid this please use one of our preferred feed readers and the authentication mechanisms that they provide.
